<p>Are you interested in easy, but greatly effective, leg toning exercises that you can do anywhere, anytime &#8211; without having to deal with the hassles of &#8216;going to the gym&#8217;?</p>
<p>Fitness centers and health clubs are filled with big, expensive machines.</p>
<p>No matter what kind of leg exercise program you are looking for, the instructors are going to put you through a typical general lower body workout circuit doing one set on each machine for twelve reps and so on.</p>
<p>Of course, they are not going to show you a workout routine that doesn&#8217;t need a single exercise machine. They&#8217;d be out of business!</p>
<p>The truth is, toning and firming up your leg, hip and thigh area is not achieved by using all those weight machines, and heavy dumbbells and barbells that could get you all pumped up with much more muscle than you were looking to build, or cause serious, long term injuries! (we&#8217;ve all heard these horrible stories, right?)</p>
<p>The real magic of a properly structured leg exercise program lies in the combination of non-weighted and body weight exercises, put together in a sequence that targets all the muscles in AND around the legs, hips and thighs. The program should also emphasize proper form AND speed of movement along with breathing &#8211; these are elements that are lacking from most &#8216;modern&#8217; leg workouts and fitness programs.</p>
<p>Here is an example of a highly effective, but simple leg toning and shaping exercise:</p>
<p>First you&#8217;ll need a staircase or a utility step &#8211; 9 to 12 inches high is good.</p>
<p>You may have one you can use in your garage or a closet &#8211; just make sure it is sturdy.</p>
<p>If using a staircase &#8211; stand on the second step with both feet. If using a utility step &#8211; try to use one that is about 10 &#8211; 15 inches high &amp; stand on it with both feet. This is one of the simplest yet most effective leg exercises for women.</p>
<p>Place your hands on your hips or hold them out in front of you, or out to the side. SLOWLY, step down with your left foot &amp; LIGHTLY touch the floor with your toes &amp; the ball of the foot (keep your heel off the ground).</p>
<p>Then bring your left foot back up &amp; lightly touch the step and repeat this 15 times with the left foot.</p>
<p>Take a 10 second rest and then do the right leg.</p>
<p>IMPORTANT &#8211; The leg that stays on the step is the one doing the most work &amp; you should feel a nice &#8216;burn&#8217; in that leg.</p>
<p>This means you are doing the exercise right.</p>
<p>If it is too easy &#8211; you may be moving too fast &#8211; the key is to move slowly to &#8216;use the muscles properly&#8217;.</p>
<p>Or the step may be too low &#8211; try a higher step to increase the intensity of this leg toning exercise.</p>
<p>Try to build up to 3 sets of 15 reps (per leg) with 20 seconds rest between sets. If you haven&#8217;t been exercising your legs, or are a beginner &#8211; you can do this 2 or 3 times each week.</p>
<p>If you have been exercising you can simply add it right into your current leg workout routine.</p>
<p>Often times, too much focus is placed on machines, gadgets and high intensity, &#8216;no pain &#8211; no gain&#8217; concepts. Most of this is for marketing reasons and sometimes just a pure lack of understanding of what the female body needs in terms of the correct leg exercises and overall fitness program.</p>

But, before I get into what you need to know about extremely effective and surprisingly simple thigh exercises you can do anywhere, anytime &#8211; without strenuous weights and dangerous exercise machines, I want to give you my experienced based perspective on the typical &#8216;weights and machines &#8211; bodybuilder, weightlifter, old-school personal trainer&#8217; approach to fitness for women.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not the only way of doing something that can be done several other ways. And it&#8217;s certainly not right for everybody. Fitness instructors and trainers are trained to teach people how to lift weights and use machines. This is fine &#8211; but it is just one element in the bigger picture of ways to pursue fitness.</p>
<p>Some of the most effective workouts for toning and shaping your thighs can be achieved with no weights and no equipment.</p>
<p>Factors such as bodyweight, gravity, speed of movement, form and sequence of exercises can be combined and coordinated to give anyone a targeted, results delivering lower body workout that is realistic enough to be a regular routine for any woman.</p>
<p>These elements, when followed on a consistent basis &#8211; as part of a regular fitness routine, combined with a wise nutritional intake that is in line with a woman&#8217;s specific health and fitness goals can produce results that success stories are made out of.</p>
<p>The thigh area is loaded with a bunch of different muscles of various lengths, shapes and thickness. Additionally, the functions of these muscles are all different. However, they must all coordinate with each other to perform the many movements we are capable of.</p>
<p>By taking advantage of these anatomical factors, a complete workout routine of thigh exercises can be devised and implemented with results that are second to none. It doesn&#8217;t matter if the goal is to lose unnecessary fat and cellulite while firming the muscles underneath or if the goal is to build up and add shapely muscle tone to a flat and scrawny hip and thigh area &#8211; the exercises are just as effective in both cases. The big difference in these two cases would be caloric intake.</p>
<p>If we take a female with twenty seven pounds of extra body fat &#8211; mostly in the lower body, and we take another female who is very skinny, with no muscle tone &#8211; just some flabby skin and maybe some cellulite. The exercise routine can be almost identical &#8211; because the desired end results are almost the same but because of the difference in starting points, there has to be a difference in caloric intake.</p>
<p>One promoting fat loss with muscle shaping and the other promoting some muscle growth and toning.</p>
<p>Both subjects are trying to improve the same areas of their bodies. They have the same muscles &#8211; and these muscles anatomically function the same in all humans &#8211; therefore the same thigh exercises can be utilized with success in different scenarios.</p>

The good news is this should be a welcome change because the old-school bodybuilder, weights and machine type workout routines can do more damage in the long run as compared to a smart, properly structured lower body exercise routine.</p>
<p>Exercise machines and weights will always have their place in fitness &#8211; but they are not the only way to achieve a strong, well toned lower body. The right selection of lower body exercises can produce a sufficient training stimulus to bring about desired changes, continuous progress and visible results. As health clubs and fitness centers are filled with an endless amount of exercise machines and weight training gear, it is in their best interest to promote weight and machine type workout programs. Naturally, members develop a dependency on these types of workouts because they don&#8217;t learn any alternative exercise methods. Some fitness experts argue that workouts with machines and weights are the only path to true lower body improvements. The reality is, nothing can be further from the truth.</p>
<p>The problems with this mind-set range from the &#8216;more is better&#8217; syndrome to the &#8216;I got out of my routine&#8217; excuse. To develop a strong, fit and defined lower body your choice of exercises must be realistic for long term adherence and they must consist of exercises that can be done at home or while on the road if you are traveling. As a career personal trainer and fitness consultant I&#8217;ve had the opportunity to work with many people at various stages of life. The people who maintain long term fitness success are the ones who structure their lower body exercise routines so that they are &#8216;portable&#8217; &#8211; meaning if they don&#8217;t have a gym available to them &#8211; it&#8217;s not going to prevent them from getting their lower body exercise session in. This ties into one of the essential elements of fitness success &#8211; consistency. Staying on a regular exercise schedule will yield the best long term results. Starting and stopping a routine that is unrealistic will yield harmful results &#8211; this is a fact.</p>
<p>Lower body workouts consisting of body weight leg exercises produce an incredible amount of natural strength while providing gender specific improvements in muscular development and appearance. While women seek more of a toning and firming effect, men seek more of a lean muscle building effect with muscle group definition. An old fitness myth exists that has people believing that a woman will develop muscles like a man if she follows the same type of lower body exercise program. The exercise program does not dictate this result. It&#8217;s the gender/genetic differences of the male and female DNA that dictate the specific results that men and women derive from well rounded, and properly structured lower body exercises. Not the type or intensity of the workout routine itself.</p>

<p>Does spot toning or spot reduction really work? Most fitness trainers and fat loss coaches will swear that spot training doesn&#8217;t work.  But the rarely admitted truth is&#8230; &#8220;Yes, it does.&#8221; &#8211; but only if you are following the right kind of exercise program.</p>
<p>Women of all ages and body types always want to know&#8230; &#8220;Does spot training really work or is it bogus?&#8221;</p>
<p>First lets just clarify the definition, you&#8217;ll hear words such as spot toning, spot reduction, spot targeting, but they&#8217;re all pretty much talking about the same thing&#8230;</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s &#8216;doing certain exercises for a specific part of the body to get a direct result in that area of the body&#8230;&#8217;</p>
<p>Lets take &#8216;spot reduction&#8217;&#8230; &#8211; a woman does a handful of exercises for her legs, butt, thighs or abs &#8211; while she&#8217;s doing the exercises, she feels a warm, &#8216;muscle burn&#8217; sensation in the specific area she is working &#8211; this warm burn is not the &#8216;fat, cellulite and flab burning off&#8217; per se &#8211; it&#8217;s simply the physiological reaction of the muscle to the exercises being done&#8230;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s perfectly normal and to be expected.</p>
<p>Now this burn might not happen all the time &#8211; this will depend on the &#8216;fitness&#8217; level of the person &#8211; whether or not they&#8217;ve done these specific exercises &#8211; in this specific order &#8211; at this specific tempo, form etc, etc &#8211; in the past.</p>
<p>So this &#8216;burn&#8217; is not the burning of fat, flab, or cellulite, but if these exercises have been strategically combined and are done according to a simple plan (what&#8217;s called an &#8216;exercise prescription&#8217;) &#8211; then there is surely and unquestionably going to be an amount of fat &#8211; flab and/ore cellulite &#8220;burned&#8221; as fuel for energy during the workout</p>
<p>And &#8211; of course-  afterward, as the program itself boosts the woman&#8217;s metabolism &#8211; and keeps it cruising along &#8211; for several hours after she has completed her properly structured and yes, spot targeted &#8211; no, make that laser-beam targeted, spot training exercise routine.</p>
<p>When women want to know&#8230; &#8220;Does spot training really work on my most stubborn problem areas?&#8221;</p>
<p>The honest and accurate answer is &#8220;Yes, it does work &#8211; but only if you are doing a program that is put together properly &#8211; in other words if you are following a program that is focused on your lower body problem areas and trouble spots &#8211; and the program has been designed to get the desired results &#8211; then YES &#8211; spot targeting works&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Keep in mind &#8211; you can, and may have already, tried certain exercise programs that &#8216;claim&#8217; to target specific parts of your body &#8211; BUT you were only let-down after several months on the program to find that it didn&#8217;t live up to it&#8217;s promises and hype.</p>
<p>And this is where the &#8220;Myth of Spot-Targeting&#8221; gets it&#8217;s bad reputation.</p>

<p>I recently had a chance to catch up with one of my favorite fitness colleagues at a womens&#8217; fitness conference in South Florida. We got into a conversation about the 2 ways women try to <strong>get sexy thin thighs</strong>&#8230;<span id="more-16"></span></p>
<p>Those 2 ways are:</p>
<p>1 &#8211; The Easy Way</p>
<p>2 &#8211; The Hard Way</p>
<p>The Hard Way actually was a long list of the many wrong and self-destructive ways of &#8216;attempting&#8217; to get nice thin thighs, ranging from unrealistic heavy weights and uncomfortable machine type exercise programs to bogus &#8216;spa&#8217; treatments (like body wraps) to &#8216;slimming pills&#8217; to crazy &#8216;diets&#8217; to ridiculous &#8216;cleansing&#8217; juice fasts to &#8216;miracle&#8217; thigh lotions and creams&#8230;</p>
<p>Of course, there was a whole lot more than that, but you get the idea of our candid conversation &#8211; that eventually came to the subject of The Easy Way to get attractively thin thighs.</p>
<p>This, of course, first assumes that a woman has flabby, fat, thick and heavy thighs &#8211; that she is unhappy, maybe even depressed with and wants to slim them down and firm them up.</p>
<p>Both of us wholeheartedly agreed that the easiest way for a woman to get sexy thin thighs is by:</p>
<p>Rule One &#8211; following a properly structured, and targeted exercise routine, that focuses on the problem areas (in this case &#8211; the fat thighs).</p>
<p>Rule Two &#8211; combining that program with the right type and amount of cardiovascular exercise for calorie burning.</p>
<p>Rule Three &#8211; following a healthy, simple, and &#8216;calorically correct&#8217; eating plan with foods that are readily available at any modern supermarket and taste good!</p>
<p>Rule Four &#8211; [Most Important] Committing to a lifestyle of &#8216;fitness&#8217; habits that naturally result in a woman having &#8216;those eye catching thighs&#8217; and a body to match, for the rest of her fun life.</p>
<p>Please make note that &#8216;thin thighs&#8217; is a relative term &#8211; and most often can be replaced by &#8216;thinner thighs&#8217; &#8211; because let&#8217;s face it &#8211; &#8216;too thin&#8217; is not sexy or desirable either.</p>
<p>Which takes us back to my philosophy on fitness and life:</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s all about balance. Proper balance, that is.&#8221; In other words &#8211; you can balance the wrongs things and that won&#8217;t bring you the results you want. You must balance the right elements for to get the desired outcome.</p>

Fitness instructors and trainers are trained to teach people how to lift weights and use machines. <p>Are you interested in easy, but greatly effective, <strong>leg toning exercises</strong> that you can do anywhere, anytime &#8211; without having to deal with the hassles of &#8216;going to the gym&#8217;?</p>
<p>Fitness centers and health clubs are filled with big, expensive machines.</p>
<p>No matter what kind of leg exercise program you are looking for, the instructors are going to put you through a typical general lower body workout circuit doing one set on each machine for twelve reps and so on.</p>
<p>Of course, they are not going to show you a workout routine that doesn&#8217;t need a single exercise machine. They&#8217;d be out of business!<span id="more-7"></span></p>
<p>The truth is, toning and firming up your leg, hip and thigh area is not achieved by using all those weight machines, and heavy dumbbells and barbells that could get you all pumped up with much more muscle than you were looking to build, or cause serious, long term injuries! (we&#8217;ve all heard these horrible stories, right?)</p>
<p>The real magic of a properly structured leg exercise program lies in the combination of non-weighted and body weight exercises, put together in a sequence that targets all the muscles in AND around the legs, hips and thighs. The program should also emphasize proper form AND speed of movement along with breathing &#8211; these are elements that are lacking from most &#8216;modern&#8217; leg workouts and fitness programs.</p>
<p>Here is an example of a highly effective, but simple leg toning and shaping exercise:</p>
<p>First you&#8217;ll need a staircase or a utility step &#8211; 9 to 12 inches high is good.</p>
<p>You may have one you can use in your garage or a closet &#8211; just make sure it is sturdy.</p>
<p>If using a staircase &#8211; stand on the second step with both feet. If using a utility step &#8211; try to use one that is about 10 &#8211; 15 inches high &amp; stand on it with both feet. This is one of the simplest yet most effective leg exercises for women.</p>
<p>Place your hands on your hips or hold them out in front of you, or out to the side. SLOWLY, step down with your left foot &amp; LIGHTLY touch the floor with your toes &amp; the ball of the foot (keep your heel off the ground).</p>
<p>Then bring your left foot back up &amp; lightly touch the step and repeat this 15 times with the left foot.</p>
<p>Take a 10 second rest and then do the right leg.</p>
<p>IMPORTANT &#8211; The leg that stays on the step is the one doing the most work &amp; you should feel a nice &#8216;burn&#8217; in that leg.</p>
<p>This means you are doing the exercise right.</p>
<p>If it is too easy &#8211; you may be moving too fast &#8211; the key is to move slowly to &#8216;use the muscles properly&#8217;.</p>
<p>Or the step may be too low &#8211; try a higher step to increase the intensity of this leg toning exercise.</p>
<p>Try to build up to 3 sets of 15 reps (per leg) with 20 seconds rest between sets. If you haven&#8217;t been exercising your legs, or are a beginner &#8211; you can do this 2 or 3 times each week.</p>
<p>If you have been exercising you can simply add it right into your current leg workout routine.</p>
<p>Often times, too much focus is placed on machines, gadgets and high intensity, &#8216;no pain &#8211; no gain&#8217; concepts. Most of this is for marketing reasons and sometimes just a pure lack of understanding of what the female body needs in terms of the correct leg exercises and overall fitness program.</p>
